Setup

Getting Started

The 3 cables are plugged into the base station (Black box).

The base station should have the button lit up blue. If this is not the case, check that the power is switched on at the socket, and the Ethernet port is working correctly (the use of the landline socket is optional).

Check handset is registered to base station.

All handsets should be registered to the base station at time of purchase, to confirm this please press the blue button on the base station for a second to page the handset; the handset should now ring. Press hang-up on the handset to acknowledge and leave the paging function.

If the handset does not ring it is not registered to the base station, and must now be registered.

Register Handset to Freshtel Account

  1. On the handset click the menu button (press the centre button to the right)
  2. Scroll up/down to ‘Settings’, and then click ‘OK’ (top-right button on handset)
  3. Scroll up/down to ‘Telephony’, and then click ‘OK’
  4. Scroll up/down to ‘Connection Assist’, and then click ‘OK’
  5. A screen will appear asking you to enter a ‘System PIN’ (the default PIN will be ‘0000’). You should enter the PIN and click ‘OK’
  6. Scroll up/down to ‘Australia’, and then click ‘OK’
  7. Scroll up/down to ‘Freshtel’, and then click ‘OK’
  8. A screen will appear asking you to enter an ‘Authent. Name’ - you must enter your Freshtel Number.
  9. A screen will appear asking you to enter an ‘Authent. Password’ - you must enter your Freshtel Password (see the password tip below)

The phone will now connect to the service and could take up to a minute (maximum expected time). The handset will now show ‘INT 1’ on the display. This indicates the phone is registered and calls can now be made.

Password Tip

Use the # key to toggle between uppercase, lowercase and numbers.

Troubleshooting

Register handset to base station

  1. On the handset click the ‘Menu’ button (press the centre button to the right)
  2. Scroll up/down to ‘Settings’, and then click ‘OK’ (top–right button on handset)
  3. Scroll up/down to ‘Handset’, and then click ‘OK’
  4. Scroll up/down to ‘Register H/Set’, and then click ‘OK’
  5. Base 1 should show as having a tick; if not click ‘OK’ on Base 1 which will be highlighted.
  6. A screen will appear asking you to enter a PIN (the default pin will be ‘0000’). Enter the PIN and click ‘OK’. ‘Register. Procedure Base 1’ will flash on the screen
  7. Press and hold the blue button on the base station for 5 seconds
  8. The handset will now register to the base station (this may take up to 30 seconds)

After around 30 seconds one of two things will happen: the handset will now show ‘INT 1’ in the main display, or the ‘envelope’ button (the second button down on the right-hand side; to the right of the menu button) may flash red.

If the ‘envelope’ button is flashing red, press this button and it will initiate the ‘Connection Assist’. Move down to step 6 in the Register handset to Freshtel account section (below).

If ‘INT 1’ is shown in the main display, move to the Register Handset to Freshtel account section below.

If neither of the above options happens then briefly press the ‘blue’ button on the base station and the handset should ring. If the phone does not ring you will need to must double-check all the above steps.

How do I make calls?

Making calls with the Siemens Gigaset C470IP handset is no different than from the way you always have, simply dial the number or select from a phonebook entry and press dial. The C470IP allows for both VoIP and Landline calls, and further details on using the handset can be found in your quick start guide.

My internet connection is in one room but I would like to set the phone up in another room, can I do this?

Yes. The base station must be near your internet connection however the phone can be set up in any part of the house on the charging station provided.

Can I dial 000 from this phone?

Yes, 000 calls will be automatically routed via your standard landline as long as you have you landline plugged in and activated. The handset is DECT so in the event of a power outage you will not be able to make calls. Freshtel recommend for this reason do not rely on the handset to make emergency calls.

I am getting a message that says, “Provider registration failed”

I am experiencing call drop outs, how can I fix this?

You need to set up “port forwarding”. Contact our friendly helpdesk staff and they can assist you setting this up with your existing network.

I can make calls out but cannot receive them. How do I fix this?

I am getting static (or some sort of interference) when on a call. How can I fix this?

This is almost always caused by your internet connection. If you are using a program such as Bit Torrent, Limewire, or some sort of download manager or peer-to-peer download software this can and will cause this. To fix this, stop your transfer or limit the amount of bandwidth that your PC uses.

This may also be caused by faulty hardware. Contact our friendly help desk staff and they will be more than happy to assist.

What is the minimum recommended internet speed to run Freshtel?

The bare minimum is 256/64kbps however we highly recommend 512/128kbps or faster.

  6. A screen will appear showing the IP address of the Siemens phone.

To enter the device web interface:

  1. Enter theIP address into a browser window
  2. A screen will appear asking you to enter a ‘System PIN’ (the default PIN will be ‘0000’). You should enter the PIN and click ‘OK’.

How do I setup port forwarding?

If you need to set up port forwarding, don’t hesitate to contact our friendly helpdesk staff who will be able to set this up for you quickly and easily.

I have set up port forwarding but I still am unable to make a call!

Port 5060 may be blocked on your modem. Certain modems such as the Thompson Speedtouch 536, and certain Motorola Cable Modems, “bind” port 5060, and this must be fixed for Freshtel to work properly. To unbind port 5060, follow the following steps:

  1. In Windows, Click Start > Run >, type ‘cmd’ then click ‘OK’.
  2. At the prompt, type in ‘ipconfig’. Write down the Default Gateway IP address
  3. Then type ‘telnet [your gateway IP address]’. i.e. telnet 10.0.0.138
  4. Enter the username and password. Normally this is admin and admin.
  5. When you are logged in, type ‘firewall config state=disabled’. Press ‘Enter’.
  6. Type in ‘saveall’. Press ‘Enter’.
  7. Type ‘Exit’
